Rouge National Urban Park

Parks Canada

Over three years, Fiberwalk panels were instrumental in developing 12 unique boardwalk, lookout deck, and bridge projects throughout Parks Canada’s Rouge National Urban Park (RNUP). These boardwalks, each with varying spans and widths, were essential in enabling access to some of the park’s most challenging terrains, including wetlands, steep slopes, and remote sections of the RNUP spine trail. The lightweight design of Fiberwalk panels was pivotal to the success of these projects, allowing construction in delicate ecosystems with minimal machine assistance. In areas with restricted machine access, the panels were manually slid into place by hand, preserving the surrounding natural environment.

The panels are supported on a variety of foundations—including helical piles, bridge abutments, grade beams, or directly on the ground—demonstrating the versatility of Fiberwalk’s design. This flexibility has made it possible to install boardwalks across diverse landscapes while minimizing disturbance to sensitive habitats. Thanks to Fiberwalk’s innovative approach, these boardwalks now offer safe, sustainable passage through ecologically delicate areas, allowing visitors to explore and appreciate RNUP’s natural beauty with reduced environmental impact.
